Best new 9mm pistols by job
Under $600: the value picks
Three of 2026's most interesting 9mms are also its least expensive. The Taurus TX9 ($499.99) is Taurus's first purpose-built duty pistol: a serialized steel chassis that moves between full-size, compact and subcompact grip frames, with a T.O.R.O. optics-ready slide. The FN 309 MRD ($549) takes a different path, with an internal hammer, a single-action-only trigger, an easy-rack slide and a direct-mount optics cut. And Springfield's Echelon Alpha 4.0C ($599) brings the modular Echelon to a lower price.
Duty and home defense
The headline is the Glock 17 Gen6 ($745), with a new palm-swell frame, flat-faced trigger and direct-mount optics; see our Gen 6 vs Gen 5 comparison. CZ's clean-sheet CZ DUTY ($729) puts a serialized modular chassis, direct-mount optics and an optional ambidextrous manual safety in four launch models. For a heavier, flatter-shooting duty gun, S&W's steel-frame M&P9 M2.0 Metal HD ($1,149) runs a 5-inch barrel at 34.9 ounces empty. SIG's P385-FULL adds a recoil-dampening system and P320 magazine compatibility; SIG hasn't priced it yet.
Everyday carry
The Glock 19 Gen6 is 40 grams lighter than the Gen 5 G19 at the same size. H&K's VP9CC ($1,049) is a 20-ounce micro-compact with an optics system that seats a red dot lower. CANiK's METE MC9 Prime Radian ($899.99) adds a ported barrel and tritium sights to a 17+1 carry gun. And SIG's P385-CARRY is the do-everything model of the new P385 line. Full breakdown in our new compact and micro-compact carry pistols guide.
Competition and premium
If budget is secondary, 2026 is a great year. The Staccato HD C4X ($3,499) pairs an integrated compensator with Glock 19-pattern magazines. Shadow Systems' AXIO ($1,999) is a clean-sheet steel-chassis striker gun. SIG and Agency Arms' P226-X Agency ($2,849.99) is a single-action P226 with a factory ROMEO-X. S&W's Performance Center Competitor HD ($1,299) is the race-ready Metal HD, and Springfield's Echelon Pro Comp ($899) adds a compensated slide for far less money. Double-stack 1911 fans get the Kimber 1911 DS Warrior ($1,099), SIG's P211-FULL and P211-CARRY, and the Jacob Grey TWC HEX.
Classic steel
Springfield's SA-35 4-inch polished blued ($799) gives the Hi-Power pattern a shorter barrel, a deep blue finish and walnut grips.

2026 trends in new 9mm pistols
- Direct-mount optics are the new standard. Glock Gen 6, CZ DUTY, FN 309 MRD and the SIG P385's SIG-LOC slides all move away from adapter-plate stacks toward optics that screw directly into the slide.
- Serialized chassis. The Taurus TX9 and CZ DUTY join Springfield's Echelon in making the serialized part a removable chassis, so one gun can wear different grip frames.
- Single-action is back in a big way. The SIG P211 line, the FN 309 MRD and the P226-X Agency all run single-action-only triggers.
- Recoil control from the factory. Integrated comps (Staccato HD C4X, P385-COMP and MACH3D, Echelon Pro Comp) and SIG's Recoil Dampening System aim at flatter shooting without aftermarket work.

How we chose
Every product in this guide comes from our release database, which tracks new products from first announcement to shipping. To make the list, a product had to be announced for the 2026 model year (or announced in late 2025 for 2026 availability) and have a cited maker or trade-press source. We then grouped products by the job they're built for, using the maker's published specs, and weighed manufacturer MSRP and verified shipping status. If two products did the same job, we favored the one you can actually buy today.
We haven't range-tested these products, and we don't claim to have. Our picks are editorial judgments based on published data, and we say when something is only announced. Prices are manufacturer MSRPs from cited sources, and street prices are often lower once a product has been shipping for a while. Status comes from our latest dated check, shown on each product page. Read more about how we track releases and our editorial standards.
